Fostering comprehensive Viet Nam-Hungary relations

Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban meet the media following their talks in Budapest on September 10.

 

The official visit to Hungary by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong at the invitation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was a success. The joint statement on the establishment of the Vietnam – Hungary comprehensive partnership affirmed the significance of the Party chief's visit to both countries, helping to creative a new motive for bilateral relations in all aspects.

This is the first official visit by the Party General Secretary of Vietnam to one of the countries in Central and Eastern Europe since the regime transition in these nations. The visit also affirms Vietnam's policy of considering Hungary as a key traditional partner in Central and Eastern Europe.

 

Over the past 70 years, the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Hungary have seen strong growth, particularly in more recent years. In order to lift the bilateral relations to a new level, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban agreed to enhance bilateral ties to the level of comprehensive partnership. The heightening of bilateral relations expresses a deep strategic vision and meets the interests and aspirations of the two peoples for the new era.

 

The leaders and people of Hungary gave General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation a warm and sincere welcome. Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong had a diverse and effective working agenda in Hungary, including talks with Prime Minister Viktor Orban, meetings with President Janos Ader and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Hende Csaba, participation in the conference of rectors of Vietnam and Hungary’s universities, and a visit to Szentendre city, among others.

On this occasion, under the witness of 2 countries Leaders, Assoc. Prof. Pham Le Tuan, Vice Minister of Health and Dr. Palkovics László Minister of Innovation and Technology  of Hungary signed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of health economy. Against the framework of the MOU, both sides plan to provide for an expansion of cooperation in the following fields of mutual interest as Technologies, products and services (joint-efforts in building a platform for health innovation, pharmaceutical industry, strengthening cooperation in the field of laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures); Health economic investment and trade (communicate of investment opportunities and bilateral trade promotion, encourage private investment into both markets); Regulation (knowledge transfer regarding the European Union's regulation procedure of pharmaceutical- and medical technology, medical device management).The above mentioned fields of cooperation do not exclude any further cooperation in harmony with the mutual interests of the both sides.

The Ministry of Health of Viet Nam keeps working closely with Hungarian partners to develop diverse cooperation activities especially in all sessions of the Hungarian – Vietnamese Joint Commission on economic cooperation. On the 8th Session held in November 2018, Both Sides agreed that the health sector is an important pillar of the bilateral economic cooperation. The two Sides affirmed the importance of promoting the cooperation in health care within the framework of signed agreements as follows: developing and reforming the health care system and social insurance system; preparing to upgrade the oncological services in Vietnam. Both Sides also expected to extent the cooperation in  public health systems related to the prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases; exchange of information between the authorization bodies of the pharmaceutical authorities of the two countries on regulation of authorization and supervision processes of drugs.
