A new 5-in-1 vaccine has been licensed in Vietnam by the Ministry of Health to ensure an adequate supply of vaccines for children.

The vaccine, namely Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenza type b Conjugate Vaccine Adsorbed, is produced by the Serum Institute of India Pvt. Ltd and imported by the Company for Vaccine and Biological Production No.1 (Vabiotech).

In addition to the traditional five-in-1 vaccines being used in Vietnam, such as Pentaxim and ComBE Five, the new vaccine is expected to ensure an adequate supply of vaccines for children.

To ensure sources of vaccines against pertussis, diphtheria and tetanus, on September 27, the MoH’s Drug Administration of Vietnam sent an urgent dispatch requesting the units concerned to ensure the supply of combined vaccine DPT-HepB-Hib.

The administration also asked the health departments under the centrally-run provinces and cities, as well as hospitals and institutes under the MoH, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology of Central Highlands, and the Pasteur Institutes in Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang to update their information and put the new registered vaccine into their plans, while actively making orders to purchase the vaccine to diversify the supply of vaccines.

It urged the relevant units to actively replace the source of vaccines in case the current supply is ever at risk of a sudden shortage.
